How to Authorize Ableton Live 9 Offline Using an .auz File
Ableton Live 9 is a powerful music production software that requires authorization before you can use it. If you have an internet connection, you can authorize Live online by entering your serial number and logging into your Ableton user account. However, if you don't have an internet connection, or if you are using an older version of Live (4-9), you can still authorize Live offline using an .auz file. An .auz file is a special file that contains your license information and can be used to unlock Live on your computer. Here are the steps to authorize Ableton Live 9 offline using an .auz file:
Install Live on the computer that you wish to use it on.
When Live starts, you will see an authorization dialog. Click on No Internet on this computer.
Live will display another window in which the hardware code of your computer is shown, as well as further information regarding the Offline Authorization process.
Note down the hardware code (you will need to enter this number in your Ableton.com account). You can also save this information as a text file to make it easier to find later.
On an internet-connected computer, log in to your Ableton user account. Note: You do not necessarily need to use a second computer to authorize offline. Offline authorization can be performed on the same computer, as long as it has an internet connection.
Once you are logged in, select your Live license from the list and click offline authorization. Note: In case you purchased a Live license without owning earlier versions of Live and would like to authorize older versions for example for technical reasons such as running a non-supported OS for Live 9, contact Support for available options. In case you upgraded Live from earlier versions, only the new version will be shown in the list and can be used to authorize the older versions. You can find the list of your earlier licenses under View serial numbers.
Enter your hardware code from Live and click Download. The Ableton server will generate an authorization (.auz) file for the computer you want to authorize.
If using an offline machine, you can save the authorization file to your portable storage device and bring it back to the computer where Live is installed.
Open Live and double click the .auz file or drag it onto the authorization dialog. If you need to find your hardware code again, the offline authorization dialog can also be found within the Live Preferences' License / Maintenance tab.
Congratulations! You have successfully authorized Ableton Live 9 offline using an .auz file. You can now enjoy creating music with Live without any limitations.
